TITHING

How we Support Habitat International's Global Mission

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh not only builds safe, decent, and affordable houses in the City of Newburgh but contributes to decent shelter around the world. As part of Habitat International’s greater efforts to create strength, stability, self-reliance, and shelter everywhere, all Habitat affiliates are asked to “tithe” to Habitat International each year to fund shelter building work in other nations. Habitat Newburgh contributes 10 percent of its undesignated contributions each year.

Since its affiliation in 1999, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh has contributed to the ongoing shelter building efforts in Mexico and Ethiopia – two countries closely tied to the Newburgh community. In 2007, Habitat Newburgh’s Board of Directors voted to add two more countries to this list--India and Jordan. In the fall of 2010, Haiti joined our targeted efforts. To date, we have contributed over $800,000 and served over 200 families in these five countries.
