Peter Surgenor
Peter Surgenor is a retired Presbyterian Minister who served the bulk of his career as a Camp and Retreat Center Director/Executive Director. He served in Slippery Rock, Pa and Holmes, NY organizing summer programs for youth and adults, recruiting and training staff, supervising year round staff and managing complex facilities (buildings and infrastructure). As he completed his work at each ministry capital campaigns were finishing and new program facilities were completed.
Peter is active in the local judicatory of Presbyterian Churches (Hudson River Presbytery) which has been active in Habitat Newburgh since inception. PresbyBuild (the cooperative fund raising community of local Presbyterian Churches) has funded 12 houses to date. In addition Peter has been active in the communities of Presbyterian Churches on Long Island and New York City.
Peter was active in the American Camp Association for 40 years serving on local and national committees, leading educational events and serving on the National Board of Directors for 10 years including as President for 3 years (2009-2011).
Upon retirement Peter and Cathy Surgenor moved to Newburgh and immediately became involved with Habitat Newburgh and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Peter has been an active site volunteer and Saturday coffee break cheer leader. In addition, Peter was part of the leadership team which shepherded the recovery/rebuilding of the Calvary Presbyterian Church buildings after a fire in 2020.
Peter and Cathy Surgenor currently Co Chair the Faith Build Committee for Habitat Newburgh.
