"When you have kids you want a place where they can feel secure, where they can say 'This is my place'...I just wanted my kids to feel free."

Habitat Newburgh Homeowner

Homeownership Program

No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve a decent place to live.

Habitat Newburgh partners with remarkable families within our service area to provide opportunities to own a home through its homeownership program. Families must have income between 30-60% of the area median income, have the ability to pay an affordable mortgage, and be willing to partner with us through sweat equity and participation in educational classes.

Being a homeowner is more than just having a roof over your head. Homeownership builds stability, strength, and self-reliance in the families with whom we partner. Children of homeowners receive better grades in school, develop fewer behavioral problems, experience fewer illnesses, and are more likely to graduate from high school and college. Family members, in general, have less stress and adverse health outcomes as well as improvements in mental health and physical safety. Research also indicates that families who own their own homes spend more time and money to improve their neighborhoods and take a more active role in the community.

Minor Exterior Home Repair Programs

A Brush With Kindness

To help ensure the quality of affordable housing, Habitat Newburgh partners with qualified families within its service area who already own their home to receive assistance with minor exterior repairs such as porch repair, painting, landscaping, or door replacement. (Repairs cannot exceed $1,500.)

This program partners with homeowners impacted by age, disability, and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. It helps them reclaim their homes with pride and dignity.

Families must own their home, have income between 30-80% of the area median income, have the ability to pay a percentage of the cost of the repairs and be willing to partner with us through sweat equity.
